Surrounded by family and friends Aragon celebrated his first century, blowing out a sheet of candles, fondling his youngest grandson, 11-month-old Bela Abran Peralta, and leading the dancing at his big party. He and his wife, Elisea, share a memory beneath the money tree started by Magdalena City Clerk Jane Gregg and filled by Tata’s friends and neighbors. The tree ripened on schedule. During Saturday’s baile, an occasion, one of the 150 fruits it bore released itself and drifted to the floor. Aragon received personal congratulations on White House stationery from President Gerald Ford noting “the grand occasion of your 100th birthday.” EDWARD E. TORRES reported that a black and white television set was taken from his home while he and his wife were at church. Mrs. Torres’ purse was also missing but recovered by Tony Aragon who spotted it laying in the middle of the road toward Escondida. Currency was missing but credit cards and driver’s license were still in the purse. Torres received CAP Cadet Pre-Solo Wings, recognizing that he had conducted a complete glider flight without assistance from his flight instructor. THE LADY WARRIORS may not have played the prettiest first half of soccer during their season opener against East Mountain at the Socorro Sports Complex, but they can be happy about two things: one, they beat the visiting Timberwolves 6-0 and two, they still haven’t lost a regular season match for the better part of two years. Junior striker Danielle Moore racked up three goals and an assist for Socorro and freshman forward Kaylene Baca added two goals and two assists to help pace the Lady Warriors to their 28th regular season win out of 29 tries, with a lone tie coming at Belen in August of last year. Freshman Claire Edmonson added a goal as well 23 minutes into the second half.
