WARM tributes have been paid to a dedicated Cathedral Canon and member of the Order of St Asaph who became a much-loved part of the North Wales International Music Festival family. John Liston died in August. He was married to Jenni and was remembered by the Diocese of St Asaph as a "huge supporter of diocesan events and services." John was appointed a Cathedral Canon in May 2022, becoming one of the first lay people to hold the position after the Cathedral opened its canonry to lay members. Paying tribute, St Asaph Diocese said in a statement: "John was a dedicated Cathedral Canon and a huge supporter of diocesan events and services. Alongside his wife, Jenni, John organised the live streaming of diocesan services such as ordinations, enabling people from far and wide to join in. John was also a familiar and much-valued presence at the North Wales International Music Festival, where he regularly worked behind the scenes at the sound and lighting desk. A statement from the North Wales International Music Festival (NWIMF) said: "We are all in shock after the passing of John Liston. We so often saw him, at the sound and lighting desk, during the festival. "NWIMF has lost a very dear friend in John… so much more than a valued colleague and supporter. "He was such a kind, generous and thoughtful man whose friendship meant a great deal to all of us. Nothing was ever too much trouble for John. He gave his time and support freely and wholeheartedly, so often going above and beyond simply because he cared deeply about the festival and the people involved in it. "His warmth, generosity and willingness to help touched so many of us, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have had him as part of the festival family. "John leaves a very special place in our hearts and in the story of the festival, and he will be remembered with great affection, gratitude and love. "We are thinking of you all the time Jenni, Brannon and Tal - thank you for all you are doing to continue to help us. "It won’t be the same without you John. Thank you so much for everything." John's contribution to the Diocese was also recognised when he received the Order of St Asaph from the Bishop of St Asaph, the Rt Revd Gregory Cameron, on October 14, 2023. The Order of St Asaph is a way of honouring, celebrating and expressing gratitude for outstanding service to the diocese by leading lay members of churches across the Diocese. Each member of the Order receives a medal which can be worn at all diocesan events, services and occasions. People Religion St Asaph 0 Comments Get involved with the news Send your news & photos
