Полиция Эссекса начала обучение сотрудников работе с новыми электрошокерами Axon Taser 10

HUNDREDS of Essex Police officers are being trained to use a new generation Taser which gives them more options when responding to violent and potentially dangerous incidents. The force is introducing the Axon Taser 10, known as the T10, after the Home Secretary approved its use by police forces across the UK in October last year. The T10 will replace the force’s existing Taser X2 devices as officers complete their annual refresher training. New Taser officers will be trained on the updated model from the outset. Essex Police said 665 frontline officers will receive training in the safe, effective and proportionate use of the device. Armed officers in the Force Support Unit and at Stansted Airport will also be trained to carry it. A Taser is an energy device which can temporarily affect a person’s neuromuscular system, allowing officers to bring a potentially dangerous situation under control. It is one of several tactical options available when officers face violence, threats or significant risk. Between January 1 and July 31 this year, Essex Police officers deployed a Taser 161 times. The device was discharged on 30 occasions, with many incidents resolved without it being fired. Among the T10’s new features is a 1,000-lumen warning light, intended to help officers assess and de-escalate threats without a discharge being needed. The device can also deploy up to 10 individually targeted probes before reloading, compared with two shots from the older X2 model. Essex Police said automated data downloads will also reduce administration, while improvements to the device’s accuracy and range will offer officers further options in high-risk situations. Every officer receives extensive training, every deployment is recorded, and our use of Taser is governed by strict national guidance. “Our aim is always to resolve incidents safely, minimise harm and protect the communities we serve. The introduction of the Taser 10 will help us continue doing exactly that.” Safeguards governing Taser use remain in place, the force said. Every deployment is recorded, body-worn video activates automatically when an officer draws the device, and many uses are reviewed by specially trained officers to ensure they were lawful, appropriate and proportionate.
