В Нортфолкском Бродсе затонул частный катер у стен древнего монастыря

Rangers are routinely patrolling a sunken boat near a medieval monastery on the Norfolk Broads while it awaits recovery. The privately owned vessel sank at the Broads Authority moorings beside St Benet’s Abbey on the River Bure during the early hours of Sunday (August 30). It happened after someone spotted the boat sitting low in the water, and once it moored, it sank to deck level. The Broads Authority has urged boaters to slow down and minimise their wash when passing the site as discussions continue with the owner over recovering the vessel - an operation which will require specialist expertise and equipment. A spokeswoman also said rangers are checking on the sunken vessel during their routine patrols to monitor its condition. "A privately-owned boat was travelling along the River Bure on the evening of Saturday August 29 and was observed to be low in the water," she said. "The helm pulled into a Broads Authority 24-hour mooring at St Benet's Abbey where the vessel sank up to the deck line. "The Coastguard and Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene. The helm was recovered and no one was hurt. "Early on August 30, Broads Authority Rangers placed a boom around the vessel to contain any pollutants. "Raising this vessel will require specialist equipment and can only be carried out by suitably qualified persons. "Broads Authority staff are in discussion with the owner regarding the recovery of this vessel, which will take place as soon as possible." St Benet’s Abbey is a historic medieval monastery on the River Bure, founded in the ninth century and later rebuilt by Benedictine monks. Although now a picturesque ruin, it remains the only monastic site in England not dissolved by Henry VIII and is still used for an annual open-air service.
