Спор между семьей Монтэгу и доверием Бёлю вызвал угрозу закрытия знаменитого автомобильного музея

I was interested to read Ian Crump’s excellent piece on the Beaulieu Motor Museum. Especially concerning the trust leaving Beaulieu after a dispute between the trust, the Montagu family and Beaulieu Enterprises. Like most people, I always assumed the Motor Museum was simply part of Lord Montagu’s estate. I did not realise there was a separate trust running the museum. You cannot really think of Beaulieu without thinking of the museum as part of that estate. The previous Lord of Beaulieu certainly gave the attraction a heightened profile, often seen driving unique motoring examples around his estate. Whatever has gone wrong between the museum and the present Lord’s estate surely needs some form of compromise, so the museum can remain at Beaulieu, its traditional home. The cost of finding another site and moving the entire attraction, with all that entails, will be enormous. I have also noticed over the last few years that the museum does not seem so prominent in the area as it once was. Whether this is by design or simply my lack of attention, it certainly feels that way. The attraction is a major draw for holidaymakers who come to the area, but it needs publicity to remind people it is there. This dispute has brought the museum to the forefront of public interest, and it is sad that a national treasure, with its unparalleled history of motoring and its world-renowned site, should be caught in such controversy.
