Ушел из жизни уважаемый бизнесмен и общественный деятель Эннискиллена Артур Блейк

Arthur Blake, a respected Enniskillen businessman, restaurateur and community volunteer, passed away peacefully on June 3, surrounded by his loving family. Formerly of "Moneen", Crownhall Road, Enniskillen, Arthur was the devoted husband of the late Angela Blake (née Cronin) of Wexford Town, beloved father of Donal and Arco, father-in-law to Triona and Rose, and a proud grandfather to Liadh, Ciara, Séan and Amber. He was the youngest son of the late William and Catherine Blake of Church Street, Enniskillen, and brother of Margaret and the late Marie, Pat, Joe, Donal, Briege, Sr Christine, Anne and Liam. Widely known throughout Enniskillen and beyond, Arthur dedicated much of his life to the hospitality industry, earning a reputation for professionalism, warmth and genuine care for others. He was educated at Castleknock College, where he was a member of the 1958 Schools' Cup-winning rugby team, before attending Cathal Brugha Street School of Culinary Arts and Food Technology. It was there that he met his future wife, Angela. His career took him across Europe, where he gained valuable experience in Switzerland, Scotland and England. He later achieved distinction as the youngest hotel manager within the Grand Metropolitan Hotel Group when he was appointed manager of the Northern Counties Hotel in Portrush, following a period as assistant manager at the renowned Slieve Donard Hotel in County Down. Arthur's enduring legacy in Enniskillen began when he returned to his hometown in 1970. He became synonymous with The Melvin House on The Diamond, which he renovated in 1979 before successfully operating it for the next 25 years. Under his stewardship, it became one of the region's most popular restaurants, and he became one of Enniskillen's best-known and most respected business figures. A naturally curious man with a lifelong love of learning, Arthur developed a particular interest in wine, earning a Diploma in Wine and later sharing his expertise as a lecturer at Enniskillen Technical College. His enthusiasm for education and mentorship left a lasting impression on many students and colleagues. In retirement, he continued to embrace learning, studying Irish, German and computer technology. Outside of his professional life, Arthur was deeply involved in the local community. He was an active member of Enniskillen Golf Club, Donegal Golf Club (Murvagh) and Enniskillen Rugby Club. He played rugby well into his forties, and coached mini rugby, before becoming a highly respected Ulster Rugby referee. In later years, he was a much-loved member of the "Early Bird" swimming group at the Lakeland Forum. He also devoted considerable time to charitable and voluntary work, supporting the St Vincent de Paul Society and participating in numerous pilgrimages to Lourdes with the Irish Pilgrimage Trust. Those who knew Arthur remember a man of exceptional kindness, generosity and encouragement. He was always willing to help others, freely giving his time, knowledge and support without seeking recognition. Friends, colleagues and family alike recall his welcoming nature and genuine interest in people. While his achievements in business and community life were considerable, family remained at the centre of his world. The death of his beloved wife Angela twenty-three years ago was a profound loss. In later years, he found immense joy in spending time with his grandchildren and took enormous pride in their accomplishments as they progressed through school and beyond. He took great comfort in the home he built with Angela just outside Enniskillen in 1998 and was especially proud of the beautiful garden he tended for many years. Together, they created the home that had long been their dream. Arthur's connection to Enniskillen was reflected in the many friendships he cultivated over the decades. His life was defined by devotion to family, his strong sense of faith, service to his community and a passion for hospitality. Through his work, voluntary service and personal kindness, he enriched the lives of countless people and left a lasting mark on the town he loved. He will be remembered with deep affection and love by his sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, extended family, friends and all those whose lives were touched by his generosity, friendship and encouragement.
