Руководство ассоциации жителей Родборн-Чени готовит к закрытию организацию, просуществовавшую 40 лет

The final report from a long-serving community leader could spell the end of a group that has helped part of Swindon for nearly 40 years. The Rodbourne Cheney Residents' Association sent out what is likely to be its last newsletter after chair Richard Kimber and most of the committee prepare to step down from their roles. Founded in 1988, the RCRA has campaigned for improvements in the area and given a voice to residents’ concerns, but the future of the association now depends on new volunteers coming forward at the annual general meeting on September 9. In the newsletter, Mr Kimber highlighted some of the achievements from the association’s history and the ongoing local concerns that still need to be addressed. Highway safety and parking were among the most persistent complaints. Specific trouble spots included the entrance to Church Walk South, the Moredon Road roundabout and its disabled parking bay, the Mulberry Grove and Elm Road junction, and The Broadway. Residents also continued to raise speeding concerns on Cheney Manor Road, Moredon Road and Whitworth Road. Mr Kimber said residents of Rowan Road had finally seen their road resurfaced after years of complaints. The group supported the 20mph restriction along Cheney Manor Road, and thanked Central Swindon North Parish Council’s maintenance team, the contractor, and local litter-picking groups and individual residents for helping to keep the neighbourhood tidy. The report notes that alleyway conditions have improved in recent years. Mr Kimber said the association had learned that PC Elroy Rodrigues had moved into another policing department, adding: “The police personnel seem to be changing so much in our area, it’s difficult to know what’s going on.” Read more Five adorable rescue dogs trying to find their forever homes The most popular options from Swindon's newest fast food restaurant reviewed Neighbours concerned about third attempt to replace bungalow with new homes He thanked police teams for their efforts over the years to tackle crime, speeding and poor driving, noting that neighbours had noticed an apparent fall in drug offences. Rodbourne Cheney is centred on the four roads leading from the Rodbourne Cheney roundabout and includes the Mulberry Grove and Olive Grove areas, The Broadway, Blair Parade, Church Walks, Moredon Road and Cheney Manor Road. It has a population of more than 4,000, two schools, three churches and numerous businesses. The settlement is recorded in Saxon land charters from the 10th century and in the Domesday Book. Mr Kimber said RCRA’s work had always depended on residents taking an active role in their community, signing off with: “There’s still plenty to do.” For more information about the RCRA, visit the Facebook page or email [email protected]
