Басс-коннекшн празднует 30-летие: от地下室ной студии до сцены в Гамбурге

Salisbury’s Bass Connection is celebrating 30 years this Saturday with a gig at Salisbury Arts Centre. Bass Connection was founded in 1996 by a small group (nine young people) who wished to learn DJ’ing skills. Following a succession of planning meetings which took place at Grosvenor House, Salisbury, the group was successful in obtaining a grant from the Prince’s Trust for £1,500. DJ equipment was purchased and the young people quickly learnt DJ skills in a refurbished and soundproofed room in the basement of Grosvenor House. Word soon spread around Salisbury that something ‘musical’ was happening at Grosvenor House and the floodgates opened. A steady flow of young people arrived wanting to pursue a whole array of musical and artistic ambitions. The Bass Connection staff planned for the steady growth of the project with young people. Through constant fundraising, support from the community, sponsorship and grants, five rehearsal rooms were equipped with drum kits, PA equipment, a sound editing room and graphic and media departments. Bass Connection opened four evenings a week, Monday to Thursday, with a weekly membership of over 200 youngsters making music. During weekends the staff would take young people to perform at various venues around Salisbury. A working relationship was formed with Salisbury Arts Centre who put on a variety of youth art projects including ‘The Salisbury Rock Awards’, a hugely successful and popular annual community event. Bass Connection also took rock bands further afield including gigs in London, Southampton, Bournemouth, Reading and Hamburg in Germany. Bass Connection finally closed its doors in 2013 when funding was withdrawn. Today more than 70 percent of the young people that used the facilities at Grosvenor House have connections with the music scene, with some having employment in the music industry.
