Внучка художника Ноэля Патона посетила картину с изображением королевы Маргариты перед лекцией

A descendant of artist Sir Noël Paton has paid a special visit to view one of his most celebrated works. Cat Berry, his great-great-granddaughter, visited Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Galleries to see the work depicting Queen Margaret and King Malcolm ahead of a forthcoming public lecture on St Margaret. She said: "The Paton’s home in Wooers Alley in Dunfermline was situated just above St Margaret’s Cave and my great-great grandfather and his siblings, Amelia, Waller and Jemima, played as children in and around the cave. "The story of Malcolm and Margaret was very close to Noël Paton’s heart and when he was commissioned by Alexander Hay, who was born in Dunfermline and emigrated to Australia, to paint a scene that would remind him of his childhood growing up in Dunfermline, this is the subject Noël chose. "Noël was also a descendant of King Robert the Bruce and King Malcolm which brought extra meaning to this particular painting." A lecture titled A Pearl, Precious in Faith and Works. St Margaret and her Medieval Biographer will take place in Dunfermline on September 15. It will be delivered by Dr Bill Aird of Edinburgh University and will cover the life of St Margaret. He said: "I will speak about St Margaret and also her medieval biographer, Prior Turgot of Durham, who later became Bishop of St Andrews. "I will explore Turgot’s career and what he had to tell us about Margaret and her family, her relationship with King Malcolm 111 and the influence she had on her children." He will also speak about the development of the cult of St Margaret and her shrine becoming a centre of pilgrimage to Dunfermline. The lecture will take place at 2pm in the Canmore Room at Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Galleries. Tickets are available from the Carnegie Hall box office, as well as online at Eventbrite and Onfife.
