A highly anticipated documentary about rugby legend Jonah Lomu is coming to UK cinemas for one night only. Directed by Gavin Fitzgerald and Vea Mafile-o, LOMU will be screened on September 7 at cinemas across the UK, including at the Odeon in Bournemouth. The film offers an intimate look at Lomu's life, going beyond his well-known rugby achievements to explore his Tongan upbringing, meteoric rise to fame, and personal and health battles. Using unprecedented access to Lomu's family and archives, the documentary gives a heartfelt character study of the rugby icon. The documentary goes deeper than ever before, correcting sensationalist narratives, confronting uncomfortable truths, and revealing the real man behind the myth. It aims to show a warrior who fought against extraordinary odds to wear the All Blacks jersey. The documentary was produced by Victoria Barrell and Simon Lazenby for Sylver Entertainment, and Emma Slade and Victoria Dabbs for Velvet Moss. Anna Godas and Oli Harbottle served as executive producers for Dogwoof. LOMU was made in association with the New Zealand Film Commission and the UK Global Screen Fund. Jonah Lomu, celebrated as rugby's first global superstar, was known for his unique mix of size, power, and speed. He became the youngest ever All Black at the age of 19, player of the tournament at the 1995 South Africa Rugby World Cup, and record holder for most tries scored in World Cup history. LOMU, which has already premiered at the London Breeze Film Festival, will be released in UK and Irish cinemas for one night only. The documentary is expected to be a hit with both rugby fans and those interested in a deeply personal narrative. Tickets for the screening can be booked through the Dogwoof website. The documentary promises to correct sensationalist narratives and reveal uncomfortable truths, painting a more accurate picture of the man behind the myth. It is not just the story of a rugby legend, but of a human being whose strength, power, and legacy continue to resonate long after the final whistle. With its unique approach and unprecedented access, LOMU promises to be a must-see for rugby enthusiasts and documentary fans alike.
