A new train mascot is on the loose and looking for a name.
Great Western Railway (GWR) has launched a naming competition for its latest limited-edition mascot, a cuddly plush dragon inspired by its Famous Five campaign.
The plushie is already making appearances across the railway, having met children’s author Michael Rosen and Great Escapes podcast hosts Isy Suttie and Dan Skinner.
Helen da Costa, head of marketing at GWR, said: "We wanted to bring a little extra magic to the railway this autumn, and what better way than with a brand-new dragon ready for its own adventures?
"We’re hoping customers will get their thinking caps on and come up with a name that’s truly legendary.
"There could be some fiery competition, but we’re sure someone will be able to come up with something that’s perfect for our newest member of the GWR family."
The public is invited to suggest names for the dragon via GWR’s social media channels, with the winner receiving family train tickets and their own plush dragon to keep.
The campaign aims to add a touch of adventure to journeys across the South West and South Wales.
Earlier this year, the company unveiled a statue of The Red Dragon at Cardiff Central station as part of its celebration of regional myths and legends.
The campaign also marks GWR’s reissue of a new version of its Legend Land series, 100 years since it was completed, featuring 11 myths across the South West and South Wales.
The plush dragon, described as a new adventurous companion, is now available for purchase from the GWR souvenir shop for £32.
Other newly released items include Line to Legend Land postcards priced at £10 and notepads at £16.
GWR hopes the dragon will become a trusted companion for travellers of all ages, ready to join families on their own legendary journeys.
From Cardiff to Exeter to St Ives, the mascot is intended to bring stories to life and inspire young explorers.
The competition is open to everyone, whether you’re a fan of dragons, a budding storyteller, or just someone with a flair for names.
