Депутат Клайв Джонс посетил расцветающий спортивный центр Pinewood в Уокингеме

The MP for Wokingham has visited a thriving activity centre in Berkshire that is home to top sports teams. Clive Jones, the Liberal Democrat MP for Wokingham, visited the Pinewood Centre in Wokingham Without to hold a constituency surgery for residents. Following the surgery, Mr Jones took a guided tour of the centre courtesy of councillor Nicholas Martin and Lesley Foxwell, the chair and vice-chair of Wokingham Without Parish Council (WWPC), which manages the site. The tour included a visit to the very popular Pinewood Café where we all tried to have a conversation with Charlie, its famous resident parrot, but on the day he was rather shy! Mr Jones, who represents Wokingham Without, said: “I had a wonderful time visiting the Pinewood Centre and seeing the excellent facilities and opportunities available to local residents. “It was also great to meet residents at my surgery and catch up with the chair and vice chair of WWPC to discuss the important role Pinewood plays in the community.” Reviewing the visit, cllr Martin said: “I thought it went very well, we were very happy for him to host his recent surgery there, we took the opportunity to show him some of the clubs. “It's a gem for the local community, the gym club and the judo club were at the Olympics. “They provide lots of benefits, there is the mini railway, hundreds come every month, go round the woodlands, and there are many other clubs, busy, growing and thriving. It's an interesting social project. “During WW2 it was set up as a sanatorium for people with tuberculosis, the buildings were set up as wards, but as the war came to an end, the buildings were redundant. “Enterprising members of WWPC decided to convert it into an activity centre, and that's what they did. “The clubs came along, including the football club, which has been a thriving club with many teams and is doing extremely well. “The allotment society is thriving. The boxing club is doing extremely well.. it's all flourishing,mand long may it continue. “So we showed Mr Jones round, he came to the site a while ago, but this was a good opportunity to keep him up to date. “We visited the Pinewood Café and said hello to the local parrot, but he was a bit shy! “It was a very good event, we as WWPC were delighted to show him round.” The visit took place on Wednesday, August 19.
