Year 11 students at The Chalfonts Independent Grammar School in High Wycombe are celebrating after achieving above the worldwide average in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP). The pupils recorded an average MYP Certificate score of 38.4 out of 56, compared with the global average of 36.4. The score was also well above the IB pass requirement of 28. Students achieved an average MYP grade of 5.08 across their subjects, which is broadly comparable to a GCSE grade 6. The school said results were strong across the cohort, with every student achieving passing grades in at least eight subjects. Almost 40 per cent of pupils achieved the top MYP grade 7 in Mathematics, while all students achieved at least a grade 4 in both Mathematics and English. Students also complete an interdisciplinary assessment and an independent personal project, with most Chalfonts pupils studying at least 10 subjects. David Shandley, principal of The Chalfonts Independent Grammar School, said: “We are incredibly proud of our Year 11 students and the results they have achieved. “To perform above the worldwide average is a tremendous accomplishment and reflects their hard work, curiosity and determination, as well as the commitment of our teaching staff. “What is particularly pleasing is the strength and breadth of these results. "The MYP encourages students not simply to learn content, but to think independently, make connections across subjects and develop skills that will prepare them exceptionally well for the next stage of their education.”
