Скрытый сад в Хэмпстеде получил официальную страницу в Instagram для спасения от разрушения

Hampstead Heath's 'hidden garden' which has become a huge hit on social media has just got its own Instagram page. The Hill Garden Pergola on the West Heath is a raised walkway that was built by an Edwardian soap tycoon to host his lavish summer parties. The 170-metre long raised walkway is now a much-loved visitor attraction on Hampstead Heath. The City of London Corporation (CoL), who manage the open space, has just recognised its fame with a page sharing the garden's changing beauty throughout the seasons. It wrote: "Tucked away on Hampstead Heath, the Hill Garden and Pergola is one of London's most remarkable heritage landscapes - and it's now on Instagram! "Grade II* listed Pergola combines dramatic architecture, beautiful gardens and breathtaking views across the Heath. "As you walk through the wisteria-clad columns and winding pathways, you'll see seasonal colour and rich history. It's a place that continues to inspire visitors more than a century after it was created. "Follow our dedicated Instagram account celebrating this unique corner of Hampstead Heath through its stories, history, wildlife and changing seasons." The higher profile could help with preserving the Grade II*-listed garden which was placed on Historic England's Heritage at Risk register last November recognising it as a top priority to be saved. Its condition was described as "very bad", at a "high" level of vulnerability and "declining" - with "immediate risk of further rapid deterioration or loss of fabric". CoL has pledged to safeguard the pergola for future generations amid hope that the listing will unlock vital funding and support. It says the inclusion on the register reflects the natural ageing of the pergola's construction and materials, and the challenges of maintaining it over the decades. The garden, which dates back to 1906, was recently named one of London's most popular small parks based on the number of social media shares and internet searches. And it has been used as a filming location including in April when it was closed for 10 days for crews to shoot a drama - amid speculation that it may feature in the new Netflix Harry Potter series. It was built by philanthropist Lord Leverhulme as a grand terraced walkway with stone balustrades and wooden trellising. The garden is raised 20 to 30ft above the ground, reportedly using materials from excavating the Northern line. London County Council inherited care of the landmark and it was restored and opened to the public in 1963. Since 1989 it has been looked after by CoL which has undertaken several repairs - including putting in new stone columns and reinforced oak framework when severe storms damaged the colonnades.
