Emergency services have carried out joint patrols to improve access for fire engines and ambulances. Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service teamed up with Thames Valley Police for visits across Buckingham and Winslow on August 14, to identify access issues that could delay emergency response times. The patrols focused on parking and other obstructions that could prevent vehicles from reaching incidents quickly. "There were some areas in Buckingham and Winslow that required us to stop and slowly guide vehicles through. "This would significantly impact scene attendance, and drivers should avoid this kind of double parking and blocking footpaths as these may need to be clear to evacuate residents." With the recent spell of hot weather, emergency services have been dealing with a relentless number of wildfires, crop and field fires, and deliberate arson incidents. Some of these incidents have required significant resources and have posed serious risks to people, property, wildlife, and livestock. During the patrols, teams visited recent fire sites to discuss emergency response, the difficulties of accessing remote locations and ways to improve joint working. Both services also stressed the importance of using the 'what3words' app to pinpoint exact locations in emergencies, especially in areas without traditional addresses. The app divides the world into three-metre squares, each assigned a unique three-word address to help emergency services locate incidents quickly. Police thanked Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service for their dedication and professionalism during what has been described as an "exceptionally busy summer." They also emphasised the value of ongoing collaboration to protect communities and ensure swift, safe responses to emergencies across the county.
