В Эссексе скончалась легендарная директор школы Салли Фрост, чья 40-летняя карьера изменила жизни тысяч детей

A beloved former headteacher who taught in schools in and around Felixstowe has died, aged 71. Sally Frost was a much-loved teacher, headteacher, and school governor clerk whose 40-year career touched the lives of thousands of children and families across East Suffolk. Born with a lifelong love of learning and creativity, Sally studied art at Ipswich School of Art from 1973 before taking a Bachelor of Education degree at the University of East Anglia’s (UEA) Keswick Hall in Norwich. She began her teaching career at Sprites Junior School in Ipswich. Teaching posts followed at Trimley St Mary Primary School in Felixstowe and Sidegate Primary School in Ipswich. In 1986, Sally took a secondment to study for an MA in Education Studies at UEA. She returned to Sidegate the following year as deputy headteacher, bringing with her an unwavering commitment to the education of every child. In January 1992, Sally became headteacher of Grange Primary School in Felixstowe, a role to which she gave her whole heart until ill health led to her early retirement in 2004. Sally’s educational values were firmly progressive and child-centred. She was troubled by the growing bureaucracy imposed on primary schools during the 1990s and early 2000s, and particularly concerned by pressures that reduced opportunities for play and creativity in young children’s learning. This led to her taking time out from teaching. In this role, too, she championed inclusion and was especially proud of helping to defend the rights and opportunities of vulnerable young people. Sally died at her home on July 1. She leaves behind an older brother, a niece, a nephew, two great-nieces, and three great-nephews, as well as a few thousand lives she touched - directly and indirectly - as a teacher, headteacher and clerk in East Suffolk over a career spanning 40 years. She was much loved and will be much missed.
