A car ploughed into a pub garden's wall as bricks reportedly hit punters - but miraculously all those involved escaped unscathed.
The Lexus CT 200h careered straight through the low boundary wall around the Wellington Arms, facing out onto Woodford Road, Watford, shortly after 8pm on Friday (July 3).
No one was hurt, although the East of England Ambulance Service attended to check over the vehicle’s occupants.
It destroyed a gazebo at the front corner of the building, which had been occupied by a father and two children earlier in the evening, according to a customer at the pub that evening.
“[A group] were standing with their backs to it but all they got hit with was bricks on their arms where the car had actually ploughed into the wall,” the man, who did not want to be named, said.
“It’s just lucky that no one was walking along the road or actually was standing further over when the car ploughed in.”
He added that the pub had been “quite busy” during the evening and “a lot of people were standing outside”.
Those nearby apparently believed the driver, who was in the car with three passengers including two children, may have accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brakes.
The vehicle had apparently come around the corner from St Johns Road into Woodford Road before sudden acceleration could be heard and the car crossed the pavement.
A Herts Police spokesperson said: “No other people or vehicles were involved in the collision.
“We attended the location and closed Woodford Road for a short period due to traffic congestion and while the vehicle was recovered.”

The Observer has attempted to contact the Wellington Arms for information on how the pub has been affected.
It does not appear that any significant structural damage was done to the main pub building, as the boundary wall likely protected it from the impact.
The Wellington Arms was built in around 1870 and is described as a “typical Victorian pub”, although it is not a listed building. Plans to demolish it and replace it with eight flats and retail space on the ground floor were blocked by Watford Borough Council in June.
