Celebrity chef James Martin recently revealed his three-stone weight loss at the TRIC (Television and Radio Industries Club) Awards, but the star has been through a difficult journey with his health. James, who was born in Malton, first broke into the entertainment industry in 2006 when he took over as the host of Saturday Kitchen. In 2017, the chef created his own show, Saturday Morning with James Martin and competed in the third series of Strictly Come Dancing. Over the years, James has been very open about his health struggles, including a cancer diagnosis and dealing with dyslexia. James Martin’s health struggles James received a facial cancer diagnosis in 2017 and went through surgical treatment for it in 2018. He carried on with medical care after the surgery and revealed he had been given the all-clear in April 2024. Starring on the Good Food podcast, he said: "When you're going through the hell that I've gone through in the last six years and you've just been given the all-clear; when you get given that news, it's horrific." "But when you're given the news at the end of it, it makes you think in a different light." James had revealed the diagnosis had left him contemplating sorting arrangements for his own funeral and how it had caused debilitating discomfort. The chef has also been very open about his dyslexia, for which he received minimal support growing up. He mentioned how he didn’t know about his dyslexia until he was 30 years old and had to read the autocue while working on television. James has spoken about how the restaurant industry is becoming “tougher and tougher” and how he has experienced burnout and went three years without having a day off. On Loose Women, he said: “Work was fundamental to this happening - I hadn't had a day off for several years, and before that it was two days off for nearly three years. “I was doing a gig abroad and I was chatting to a gentleman who was the same age as me, he had the same work ethic, he was really keen on work.
