A Southend film series capturing everyday life across the city has released its final instalment, focusing on community, connection and wellbeing.
The “Proud of Our Southend” project brings together short films and portraits designed to showcase authentic stories from people who live, work and create in the city.
Its final film, titled “All Well and Good”, highlights how residents stay active, supported and connected through a variety of local activities and groups.
The video features a range of community voices, beginning with a parent who reflects on spending time at the library with their children.
She said: “Most weekends, we try and get out to the library. They offer so much,” describing the range of activities available for families.
The importance of community spaces is a central theme throughout the film, with residents sharing how these environments help build meaningful connections.
Leroy, an allotment holder, explained that the experience goes beyond growing produce.
He said: “It’s not so much about the vegetables and what we grow.
“It’s more about the people and the community spirit that you get from coming to an allotment.”
The film also explores the benefits of physical activity, with one resident describing how returning to football after a long break has improved their wellbeing.
They said: “I got back into it about two or three years ago after a 20-year gap.
“It’s helped me with my mental health journey and now I probably play more football than I did 20 years ago.”
Clubs and social groups also feature strongly, including Prittlewell Bowls and Croquet Club, where members highlight the value of spending time together outdoors.
One member said: “We’re at Priory Well Bowls and Croquet Club and the club is all about being outside and socialising.
“You couldn’t wish for a friendlier club than what we’ve got here.”
The film concludes by reinforcing the message that such activities are open to people of all ages and backgrounds, promoting inclusion across the community.
Organisers say the series has aimed to present a genuine reflection of life in Southend, focusing on real experiences rather than traditional promotional content.
All three films in the “Proud of Our Southend” series are now available to watch.
