A 26-year-old business woman from Clacton has launched a unique pop-up shop in Soho aimed at improving women’s safety during nights out in the capital.
Victoria Hart, who co-runs the Royal Hotel and XO The Greek with Jason Smedley, has unveiled It’s Girl’s Powder - dubbed London's "first glam safe place".
The innovative concept is designed to provide a welcoming space for women who find themselves vulnerable while out.
The pop-up officially launched today and is already drawing attention for its practical approach.
Victoria, who regularly travels from Clacton to London for social occasions, said the idea was born from her own experiences.
She said: “When you’re out and your phone is dead, you feel worried and scared.
“I’ve been there - cold, no battery and unsure what to do.
"Women need a place they can go to feel safe.”
The shop offers a range of essentials and services tailored to those situations.
Visitors can charge their phones, warm up, and even pick up emergency items such as hoodies, sandals, and “SOS kits” containing practical items such as hairbrushes and eyelash glue.
The space also provides lockers where customers can store or change out of their going-out outfits, with the option to have clothes posted back to them later.
But beyond the practical elements, Victoria hopes the space will serve as a social hub.
She said: “If you can’t afford a hotel, what can you do?
“This is somewhere you can come to relax, recoup - even socialise and make friends. It’s so important.”
The launch comes just ahead of a busy weekend in London, with large crowds expected for Pride in London celebrations.
Victoria says the timing is ideal, with the pop-up providing entertainment, including a drag performer and goody bags for visitors.
Despite running on just two hours of sleep after weeks of preparation, she described the opening as a success so far.
Victoria said: “It’s been all systems go. This is the first of its kind - there’s nothing like this anywhere.”
Looking ahead, Victoria hopes to turn the concept into a regular feature in London, while also bringing it closer to home.
A second pop-up has already been secured in Weeley for August, and she plans to travel from Clacton each weekend to continue building the brand.
With a growing focus on women’s safety nationwide, It’s Girl’s Powder could mark the beginning of a much-needed new trend in nightlife culture.
