A MAN who exposed his genitals to neighbours and brandished a claw hammer while naked in the street had “lost weight” so that his trousers fell down, a court heard.
David Cooper, 63, appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court after admitting to charges of exposure, using threatening and abusive language, and causing criminal damage to property in Harwich in August last year.
Rohini Majumdar, prosecuting, said Cooper had been outside and was seen by two neighbours.
He was heard shouting and directing abusive language at them, including threatening to kick a door down.
“He was completely naked from head to toe, exposing himself,” said Ms Majumdar.
The court heard Cooper had upset and distressed other neighbours by brandishing a claw hammer and kicking a door down, causing damage of almost £500.
Bob Bodede, mitigating, said Cooper had been suffering with alcohol issues and was intoxicated at the time of the offences.
“The damage to the door was frustration,” said Mr Bodede.
“He has lost weight, and obviously his trousers fell down.”
The court heard Cooper had since been working to recover from his alcohol issues.
He had 11 previous convictions for 14 offences.

Bench chair Keith Smith said: “Alcohol is no excuse.
“I have had a pre-sentence report about you. We recognise you have done previous courses and got through.
“We are not going to send you to prison today.
“There was quite a lot of concern to how people felt about you running around with a claw hammer.”
Cooper, of George Street, Harwich, was sentenced to an 18-month community order, including 31 rehabilitation requirement days and 120 hours of unpaid work.
Cooper must pay £400 to the neighbour whose door he damaged, and £100 to a neighbour he had exposed himself to and threatened, as well as £85 in costs and a £114 victim surcharge.
