Жители района Мутуба благодаря системе коллективных сбережений CBS Pewosa накопили более 30 миллионов шиллингов

Residents in Mutuba 11, Muwanga Sub-county in Ssingo County, Kiboga District, have credited collective saving through the CBS Pewosa Nabwendo Bisobooka group with helping them improve their livelihoods and build financial resilience. The members say the savings initiative, established to promote economic empowerment among people in Buganda, has enabled them to accumulate and share more than Shs30 million in savings, giving members greater opportunities to invest and address household needs. The group members were speaking during a gathering aimed at celebrating the achievements of Nabwendo Bisobooka and appreciating the leadership for promoting a culture of saving and collective development. Members said that before joining the group, many struggled to raise enough money to meet their financial goals. However, through regular saving and working together, they have gradually improved their economic conditions. "Saving together has taught us to plan for our future. We have been able to accumulate money that would have been difficult for us to raise individually, and this has changed the way we manage our households," Specioza said. The group was established with support from CBS Pewosa as part of efforts to encourage people in the Ssingo area to embrace collective action as a way of fighting poverty. Members were first trained by CBS Pewosa experts on the importance of saving, hard work and responsible financial management. The training was led by Edith Namazzi, who encouraged members to remain committed to saving while investing their money in productive activities. Namazzi urged members to continue working hard and using the knowledge acquired through the programme to improve their households. "Saving is only one part of the journey. Members must also work hard and invest responsibly so that their savings can translate into lasting improvements in their lives," Namazzi said. Asafu Mukiibi, who introduced the collective-saving approach in Mutuba 11, Muwanga, said he sought support from the main CBS Pewosa office after recognising the need for communities to work together in addressing poverty. He explained that collective saving gives community members an opportunity to mobilise resources and support one another while pursuing common development goals. The gathering was attended by Buganda Kingdom leaders from Ssingo, including the Kabaka's Chief for Mutuba 11 Muwanga, Martin Luther Busungwe, together with other local leaders. The leaders encouraged more people in Ssingo, particularly the youth, to join CBS Pewosa groups and embrace saving as a tool for improving household incomes and preparing for the future. They also urged residents to prepare for possible food shortages by storing adequate food at household level, warning that food security should remain an important part of community development. The achievements of Nabwendo Bisobooka members demonstrate how organised community saving can provide households with an opportunity to mobilise resources, support investments and gradually improve their economic wellbeing.
