В Кении британцы передали спецтранспорт для борьбы с транснациональной преступностью

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has received a fleet of operational vehicles donated by the United Kingdom to boost efforts against transnational and cross-border crime. The vehicles were donated through the British High Commission in Kenya under the East Africa Border Security Programme and will support the DCI's specialised Counter Organised Immigration Crime Team. The handover ceremony at the DCI headquarters also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two sides and the flagging off of the vehicles by DCI Director Mohamed Amin and British High Commissioner to Kenya Matt Baugh. Baugh said the support reflected a shared commitment between Kenya and the United Kingdom to disrupt criminal networks involved in human trafficking, migrant smuggling and document fraud across East Africa. “Organised immigration crime is a shared threat. It exploits the most vulnerable, undermines lawful migration and funds wider organised crime,” Baugh said. “These vehicles will give the Counter Organised Immigration Crime Team the reach it needs to investigate, intercept and dismantle those networks.” He said partnerships between law enforcement agencies must produce tangible results, including safer borders, the protection of victims and successful prosecutions. “Partnership only matters if it produces results on the ground — safer borders, protected victims and successful prosecutions. That is the standard we will hold ourselves to together,” Baugh said. The British High Commissioner also commended Kenyan investigators and reaffirmed the UK government's commitment to supporting efforts to strengthen border security and combat organised crime in the region. Amin described the handover as a significant milestone in the longstanding partnership between Kenya and the United Kingdom. He said the collaboration had continued to strengthen the capacity of Kenyan security agencies to respond to emerging threats and transnational organised crime. The DCI boss pointed to the increasing complexity of crimes such as human trafficking, migrant smuggling, document fraud and other criminal activities that cross national borders. He said tackling such crimes required strong partnerships, intelligence sharing and coordinated action among security agencies and other stakeholders. According to Amin, the vehicles will strengthen the operational capacity of the Counter Organised Immigration Crime Team by enabling officers to respond more quickly and carry out field operations more effectively. The additional resources, he said, will also support efforts to identify, investigate and dismantle criminal networks operating within Kenya and across its borders. Amin assured the UK and other partners that the resources would be used responsibly and effectively to strengthen investigations, protect vulnerable people and support the prosecution of those involved in organised crime. The DCI also acknowledged the support of the British government, the British High Commission and implementing partners involved in the East Africa Border Security Programme, including Mercy Corps and Valar. The ceremony concluded with the flagging off of the vehicles, which the agency said symbolised a renewed commitment by Kenya and its partners to strengthen border security, protect vulnerable communities and intensify the fight against transnational organised crime.
