Deputies responded to a traffic stop near the intersection of North Lewis Street and Route 5 to assist Glenville Police at approximately 3 p.m., and during a search of the vehicle, Deputy C.D. Travis and Glenville Police Chief S.L. Estep were exposed to an unknown airborne substance. The officers began showing signs of “CDS (controlled dangerous substance) exposure,” deputies said, and two other officers on scene administered Narcan. EMS transported Deputy Travis and Chief Estep to Stonewall Jackson Hospital, where they were treated and later released. The Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office said this is a reminder of the hidden dangers law enforcement officers face on a daily basis and thanked the West Virginia State Police, Gilmer County EMS, Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital and the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.
