Защитник Др. Гринлоу вернулся в «Сан-Франциско 49ерс» после травмированного сезона в «Денвере», надеясь на восстановление карьеры

For Dre Greenlaw, the most important part of this move back to the San Francisco 49ers is not nostalgia. It is relief. After a 2025 season he described as a grind of injuries, weight gain, scheme adjustment problems, a suspension and lost playing time with the Denver Broncos, Greenlaw is back in Santa Clara trying to reset a career that never really got moving in Denver. Greenlaw’s story has always carried a bigger edge than most linebacker narratives. The 49ers drafted him in the fifth round in 2019, he became a key player next to Fred Warner, and then came the brutal injury swing: an Achilles tear in February 2024 while running onto the field after a punt in his second Super Bowl with San Francisco. That helped set up his one-year, $7.5 million contract with the Broncos, a deal that was supposed to offer a fresh start. A year that never became a season Instead, Greenlaw said the year in Denver never gave him a real chance to settle in. He spoke about “some dark moments” and said there were times when he did not want to show his face in the building. He also said he was “fighting demons left and right,” with the struggles showing up in his body as much as in his head. “My mouth’s dry, my nose is dry, I can’t sleep,” he said. “I’m fighting demons left and right.” That is the most revealing line in this whole story, because it explains why the Broncos stint was not just disappointing but incomplete. Greenlaw said it was tough because he never got a chance to give them all he had. The problem was not one thing. It was the accumulation of setbacks, starting with a severe quadriceps strain on the second day of OTAs and continuing through a year in which he never found consistent footing. He also noted the human side of the move back. After a workout and an ice bath on the first day of training camp at Levi’s Stadium, he joked, “I’m cold as hell,” before adding that the fresh air in California made a difference. “It just feels like home,” he said. That matters, but not only in an emotional sense. For a player who spent part of his childhood in foster care and has built his career by proving people wrong, comfort and familiarity are part of the football equation too. Why the return makes sense The fit in San Francisco is obvious on paper and, if Greenlaw is healthy enough, on the field. He knows the system, he knows the expectations and he knows what playing alongside Warner can look like when the defense is functioning at its best. For the 49ers, bringing back a familiar linebacker is not merely a sentimental move. It is a bet that structure and trust can help unlock the version of Greenlaw that once looked like an essential piece of the team. There is still a real question here, though, and it is the same one that always follows a comeback story: how much of the old player is actually left? Greenlaw’s 2025 season in Denver is a reminder that health, usage and scheme can change a player’s value quickly. But his return also says something about his own self-belief. “I get to still play football and prove people wrong,” he said. “And that’s what I’ve been doing my whole life.” That is the right note to end on, because this is not just a reunion. It is a restart. Greenlaw is back where he was drafted, back where he made his name and back in an environment that clearly still feels like home. The challenge now is turning that feeling into actual football again.
