Умер легенда крикета из Глэморгана Стив Барвик в возрасте 65 лет

Steve Barwick, the former Glamorgan bowler who became one of the club’s most familiar figures in the 1980s and 1990s, has died at the age of 65. Glamorgan said it was saddened by the news of Barwick’s death, with Dan Cherry describing him as one of the club’s “legendary characters” during that era. Cherry also said Barwick was a key member of the side that won the Sunday League title in 1993. A key figure for Glamorgan Barwick made his first-class debut in 1981 and went on to make 480 appearances for Glamorgan before leaving in 1996. Across that spell, he took 456 first-class wickets and 312 List A wickets, building a reputation as a reliable seamer whose off-cutters earned him admiration around the county circuit. One of the standout moments of his career came in 1983, when he took eight for 42 against Worcestershire at New Road. More than 30 years on from those performances, his achievements were still being held in the highest esteem. Tributes from around the game Briton Ferry Steel CC also paid tribute, describing Stephen R Barwick as a former captain, Glamorgan seamer and recent inductee to the Glamorgan Hall of Fame. The club called him “a great man, loving father and grandfather” and signed off with a message to “Rest in peace Baz, thanks for the memories.” Barwick’s death marks the loss of a player remembered not only for his numbers, but for the role he played in one of Glamorgan’s notable title-winning teams and for the respect he earned across the game.
