В Орвигсбурге пройдет лекция о влиянии Франко-индийской войны на Американскую революцию

The Orwigsburg Historical Society will host the program, “The Road to Revolution: The French & Indian War” on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the society’s headquarters at 109 East Mifflin Street in Orwigsburg. Join Brian Engelhardt, historian, writer, and Berks History Center Ambassador as he investigates the French and Indian War, how it led to the American Revolution, and how Northern Berks & Southern Schuylkill Counties were greatly impacted. The French and Indian War (1754–1763) is widely considered the primary catalyst that set the stage for the American Revolution. The conflict ended with a British victory but left Great Britain with massive war debts, prompting British Parliament to impose new taxes on the American colonies, such as the Stamp Act and Sugar Act, to help pay for them. During the French and Indian War, a number of local attacks by small bands of Native Americans, predominantly from the Lenape/Delaware tribes, took place on isolated homes of settlers in Northern Berks and Southern Schuylkill counties. In the early years of the war, approximately 200 settlers were killed in the attacks with about half of them being abducted. This free public program is supported in part by the Schuylkill Area Community Foundation, the Fred V. Knecht Memorial Fund, and Market Street Wash-Rite in Orwigsburg. Refreshments and fellowship will accompany the program. Call the society at 570-366-8769 for additional information.
