Дом Майкла Джордана в Хайленд-Парке продан за 9,5 млн долларов спустя 33 года после покупки

Michael Jordan’s labour of love: his Highland Park home (located in the suburs of Chicago) which was built in 1995, took decades to be sold and was sold at a fraction of the asking price. The basketball icon purchased a 7-acre property in 1991, according to The Athletic, and spent years and $50 million to transform it into a dream home. However, the house didn’t find any takers for over a decade and sold for 67 per cent less than the original asking price. According to a Business Insider article, the nine-bedroom, 56,000-square-foot home, which has been on and off the real estate market since 2012, was sold in December 2024 for $9.5 million. The former shooting guard for the Chicago Bulls listed the mansion in Highland Park, Illinois, for $29 million fourteen years ago. He lowered the price to $14.855 million in 2015, which adds up to 23, the number on his Bulls jersey. The sale price of the property represents a 67% reduction from its initial asking price. Compass listing agent Katherine Malkin told The Wall Street Journal that he spent over $50 million building the house after purchasing it in 1991. The asking price had already fallen to $14.855 million by 2015—a figure with a peculiar twist. Why is it so particular? The numbers complement Jordan's famous #23, which is a reference to the jersey number that is displayed on the front gates of the estate. The Zillow listing states that the apartment is "equipped with every conceivable luxury amenity". Situated on seven acres, the house has elements that are as distinctive as its owner, such as doors that were salvaged from the original Playboy Mansion. Nine bedrooms, seventeen bathrooms, a tennis court, a putting green, a circular infinity pool, a cigar lounge, and last but not least, a regulation-sized basketball court are all features of the property. Why Did The Mansion Find No Takers? According to The Real Estate Insider, Jordan didn’t build a mansion but a machine; it wasn’t built for a family but for Michael Jordan. The entire estate was built with athletic performance and an active lifestyle at its core. Its basketball complex is so expansive that it could easily exceed the size of many ordinary houses. The property also features a professional-grade gym, a gate with the number 23 engraved on it, a commercial-level fitness setup, a private putting area, a tennis court, dedicated recovery zones, entertainment areas, and multiple spaces designed for training and practice. It felt unlike a mansion but like a museum. Every part of the estate appears to have been carefully planned around a specific routine and way of living. Rather than being created as a conventional family residence, the mansion was tailored almost entirely to Michael Jordan’s individual lifestyle and professional needs. That highly personalised design would later become one of the biggest challenges in selling the property. Potential buyers were not simply viewing a luxurious residence and imagining their own future there. They were essentially being asked to consider living inside someone else’s highly customised vision of luxury. While every high-end property carries some degree of personal character, this estate took personalisation to another level. From the enormous 23-gate entrance to the specially constructed sports facilities, distinctive floor plan, customised interiors, and overall architectural concept, nearly every element reflected the preferences and lifestyle of one person: Michael Jordan.
