Родовое имение Пола Маккартни в Аризоне: 45 лет семейной жизни и трагической потери

In 1979, Paul McCartney and his wife Linda bought a secluded 151-acre ranch near Tucson, Arizona, creating a private family retreat away from the global spotlight surrounding one of music’s most recognisable figures. Located near the foothills of the Rincon Mountains, the property offered the McCartney family something that was increasingly difficult to find — privacy. Rather than serving as a celebrity showpiece, the ranch provided a modest home, open desert surroundings and isolation where Paul, Linda and their children could spend time together away from cameras and crowds. It also remained deeply significant after Linda’s death in 1998. Decades later, the ranch continues to offer a glimpse into the quieter, more personal side of McCartney’s extraordinary life. Paul McCartney's 151-acre Arizona ranch was a private family retreat Paul and Linda McCartney purchased the property in 1979, settling near Tucson on a large stretch of land at the foothills of the Rincon Mountains. According to Architectural Digest, the main residence was a two-storey home with a tin roof and stucco exterior. Its secluded setting gave the family the peace and privacy they were looking for. The ranch was located on Tucson’s far north-eastern side, near Reddington Pass. ‘The Paul McCartney Project’ describes the property as a secluded escape. For a musician whose life had been defined by the extraordinary fame of the Beatles, the distance from public attention offered a rare sense of normality. The ranch became more than another property in McCartney’s portfolio. It provided a place where family life could take precedence over celebrity. According to Saddlebag Notes, Linda had studied at the University of Arizona and developed an affection for Tucson’s desert landscape and surrounding mountains. Her connection with the region meant the ranch was more than simply a convenient second home. Its rugged scenery, wide-open spaces and quieter pace offered a stark contrast to the cities and public settings that had defined much of Paul McCartney’s professional life. A quieter, more ordinary life unfolded beyond the ranch gates Despite Paul McCartney’s global fame, the family was not completely isolated from life in Tucson. According to Saddlebag Notes, local residents generally respected the McCartneys’ privacy, allowing them to move around the community with relative freedom. The family reportedly made routine trips to local shops and businesses. Paul was seen driving an old pickup truck to collect supplies for the ranch. They also visited swap meets and local establishments. The McCartneys were occasionally seen at restaurants, grocery stores and petrol stations, where they interacted with people they met. The relative lack of intrusion was reportedly one of the things that made Tucson valuable to the family. They also hosted friends and neighbours at the ranch during holiday celebrations. These gatherings reflected the property’s role as a family home rather than a conventional celebrity estate. The ranch also provided opportunities for the family to ride horses, hike, swim and spend time outdoors in the surrounding desert. Paul and Linda’s four children were also part of this Arizona chapter of the family’s life. The ranch became linked to the profound loss of Linda The Arizona retreat remained central to the McCartneys’ lives until Linda McCartney’s death in 1998. Architectural Digest reports that Paul still owns the ranch, which was also where Linda died. Linda was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 1995 and received treatment in Arizona. She died on 17 April 1998 at the ranch, aged 56. The property subsequently became associated with both some of the family’s happiest years and one of its most painful losses. Neighbours reportedly saw Paul driving an old ranch Jeep through the isolated hills the day after Linda’s death, appearing deeply grief-stricken. However, the McCartney family’s connection with Tucson did not disappear. Members of the family have continued to be seen in the area, while son James McCartney has spoken warmly about the desert and his mother’s attachment to it, as reported by Saddlebag Notes. Nearly five decades after Paul and Linda bought the 151-acre property, the ranch remains a reminder of a less-public side of the musician’s life — a place where one of the world’s most famous stars could step away from the spotlight and spend time with his family.
