Билл Мюррей: секрет жизни — жить, а не репетировать

Quote of the day: Bill Murray’s ‘Secret to Life’ The conversation came during a 2013 interview with Time Out while Murray was promoting Hyde Park on Hudson, in which he portrayed US President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Asked about the secret to life, Murray recalled advice he had once given one of his brothers: “This is your life, not a rehearsal.” Murray went on to explain that people have an obligation to live as fully and attentively as possible. His broader point was that it is remarkably easy to move through everyday life on autopilot, losing sight of what we are doing and why. For Murray, the answer is to develop an awareness of your “real self” and “unique self” and maintain that awareness throughout life, rather than occasionally rediscovering it. Why Murray Says He Has ‘No Plan’ That philosophy also appears to have influenced his unconventional Hollywood career. During the same interview, Murray admitted that he did not follow an elaborate professional strategy. “I have no plan,” he told Time Out, explaining that he simply chooses projects he likes. He also suggested that protecting one's reputation matters because consistently good work can keep opportunities coming. His approach has produced a remarkably varied filmography, moving from broad comedies to quieter and more dramatic performances. ‘Groundhog Day’ Gave That Philosophy Another Meaning Perhaps no Murray film reflects the idea of consciously living one's life better than 1993's Groundhog Day. Murray plays cynical television weatherman Phil Connors, who finds himself inexplicably reliving the same day until his behaviour and outlook begin to change. Film critic Roger Ebert eventually placed the movie among his “Great Movies”, writing that its “genius may not be immediately noticeable.” Ebert viewed the story as something deeper than its time-loop premise: a film about transformation and how a person chooses to live. Its cultural reputation has endured. In 2006, Groundhog Day was selected for the US National Film Registry, which preserves films considered culturally, historically or aesthetically significant. A Simple Idea That Still Resonates Murray's answer contains no complicated formula for happiness. It essentially asks people to pay attention: to themselves, their choices and the life happening around them. That may explain why his words remain relevant years after the interview. Careers change, plans collapse, and ordinary days can begin to feel repetitive. Murray's philosophy suggests that the important part is not controlling everything that happens next, but being genuinely present for the life already underway.
