Цитата Гульельмо Маркони о том, что эра беспроводной связи сделает войну невозможной

However, when technology redefines people's means of communication, it may redefine their mutual understanding as well. For instance, at the beginning of the 20th century, wireless telecommunication was a striking novelty, while Guglielmo Marconi believed that it might affect many aspects of the life of future generations beyond simple long-distance signal transmission. Thus, he stated, "The coming of the wireless era will make war impossible, because it will make war ridiculous." In other words, the author was convinced that improved communication and interaction between countries would make further conflicts unreasonably hard to maintain. Although history turned out differently from what Marconi predicted, the meaning of his words is still valid: technology may unite people, yet the results of it will depend on how people make use of the advances created by engineers. Guglielmo Marconi (1874-1937) was an Italian inventor and electrical engineer who made his contribution to the creation of efficient wireless telegraphy. His studies contributed to the establishment of long-distance radio communication, for which he received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1909, along with Karl Ferdinand Braun. Quote of the day by Guglielmo Marconi “The coming of the wireless era will make war impossible, because it will make war ridiculous.” What does this quote mean The quote by Marconi refers to the notion that communication would render war more and more irrational. If individuals and states were able to communicate with each other almost instantly over long distances, there could be fewer misunderstandings and nations would become more interconnected. His rationale relied on the assumption that communication would promote cooperation and make violence an obsolete means of solving conflicts. Communication can bridge enormous distances Prior to wireless transmission, communication from one continent or ocean to another took time. With radio technology, there was a complete change of perspective with regard to distance. It was now possible for messages to be sent across great distances without the need for a physical connection between the two places through cables. For Marconi, wireless technology implied much more than just convenience. But technology alone cannot prevent conflict Ultimately, history proved to be very unforgiving to Marconi’s optimism. The wireless system proved to be highly useful during wartime, although it was employed not only to allow people to communicate but also for military coordination, transmitting information, and propaganda. Thus, the technology that had the potential to bring nations together could easily become a means of waging war. And there is one major lesson to be learned from all this, technology does not shape society, people do. Every communication breakthrough changes society What Marconi saw happen with the radio technology is history being repeated with new technologies that continue making it easier to communicate over international boundaries. It is possible to talk to someone in a foreign land with the click of a button. However, increased communication has not done away with the disagreements. On the contrary, it has provided more opportunities for dialogue, collaboration and even conflicts. The dream behind the technology still matters Even though Marconi's prediction did not come true, the hope behind it remains powerful. His statement reflects an idea that has appeared throughout technological history: perhaps understanding one another better can make violence less attractive. Communication cannot guarantee peace, but it can create opportunities for dialogue that would otherwise not exist. The challenge is ensuring that those opportunities are used for cooperation rather than confrontation. Why this quote still matters today In modern times, where a message can be delivered to any part of the world within seconds, there is hopefulness and warning in Marconi’s words. Mankind has realised the global communication which Marconi could have only imagined, but wars continue to take place. Hence, his quote poses a question more than giving a prediction. With modern science giving mankind the possibility to communicate with most people on earth, are we making use of it in trying to understand each other?
