11 предпринимателей из Папуа-Новой Гвинеи получили гранты на развитие климатически устойчивого бизнеса

ELEVEN entrepreneurs received US$5,000 (about K21,294) each as part of the Greenpreneurs seed programme to start climate-smart, small-to-medium enterprise from the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). The 11 were among the 175 participants who completed a six-month training on climate-resilient and low-carbon growth business solutions. They were selected after submitting their business proposals and plans. Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) private sector adviser Rahnuma Sultana said 84 business plans were developed from the training to equip entrepreneurs with knowledge and skills on climate-resilient and low-carbon. Sultana said only 11 outstanding business plans were selected. The seed funding will support them to develop practical green business solutions in agriculture, fisheries, waste-management, eco-tourism, renewable energy, circular economy, sustainable products and community-based services. “The participants from Morobe, Eastern Highlands, Chimbu, New Ireland, Milne Bay and Enga were trained on climate-friendly practices like zero-level degradation, forestation, and decarbonisation to ensure their business does not contribute to carbon-dioxide emissions,” she said. Climate Change and Development Authority acting managing director Debra Sungi said PNG was among countries most vulnerable to climate change impacts. Sungi said greenpreneurs from coastal areas were working on fisheries and eco-tourism solutions. Those from the Highlands are developing agriculture and renewable modules suited for their environment. Australian High Commission in PNG economic councillor Ashley Brosnan said that it was a milestone achievement in supporting PNG’s growing green economy, we are committed in strengthening PNG’s access to climate finance and fostering practical solutions that contribute to sustainable and inclusive economic growth. Brosnan said SMEs were the backbone of economic development, inclusive growth and job creation in PNG. He said entrepreneurs have to be part of that to identify and develop climate smart businesses.
