Депутат от лейбористов Эд Хусик вернулся к работе после серьезного ДТП в Сиднее

Labor MP Ed Husic says he is 'very lucky' to walk away from serious Sydney car crash In short: Labor MP Ed Husic has returned to work after a serious car crash in Sydney last month. The backbencher, who sustained a concussion and fractures, says he has no recollection of the incident. What's next? Mr Husic is hoping to attend parliament when it returns next week. Labor MP Ed Husic says he feels "very lucky" to have walked away from a serious car crash, revealing the extent of his injuries as he returns from several weeks out of the public eye. The Member for Chifley was travelling on Sydney's M7 motorway on August 4 when his vehicle was involved in a crash with a truck and another car. Mr Husic was taken to hospital for assessment and treatment, and was discharged the next day with minor abrasions, fractures, and a concussion. In his first public remarks since the incident, Mr Husic said he had no recollection of the incident, and said he was trying to piece together what happened on the day of the crash. "I am completely blanked of my memory from midday of the day in which the accident occurred through to when I regained consciousness in the emergency department," he told ABC's Afternoon Briefing on Monday. "I sustained a hairline fracture in one of the vertebrae, and a concussion is a new experience for me. "I can tell you sneezing is a new experience. I always have to brace myself when I'm going to sneeze because the back introduces me to a new kind of pain and ache." The Labor backbencher said he was fortunate to have had a speedy recovery. "In terms of the sum of what I went through, I am very, very lucky because I am conscious, very conscious, other people don't necessarily have that type of experience," he said. "I am very much counting my blessings." 'Keen' to get back to work Mr Husic returned to work last week and said he was "overwhelmed" by well wishes he received from parliamentary colleagues and across the community. On Tuesday, he released dash cam footage of the collision, which he has also provided to police. He hoped to attend parliament when it sits next week after he missed the previous sitting fortnight. "I am very keen to get back doing the work that I need to for my community and also obviously as a parliamentarian getting involved in different issues that I care deeply about," Mr Husic said. "The key has been to not rush back and to take it easy as a result of concussion. "I have been told I cannot return to parliamentary basketball. I cannot be involved in contact sports for some time, so I'm out from that." Mr Husic previously served in cabinet as Industry and Science Minister, but has been sitting on the backbench since the 2025 election. He was first elected to his seat in Sydney's outer west in 2010. The outspoken MP tried to gather support for a motion at Labor's national conference in July that aimed to recognise claims of genocide in Gaza.
