Macro Engineering & Technology has designed and built a new seven-layer blown film lab line that has been installed at Ingenia Polymers’ newly expanded Innovation Centre in Brantford, Ont. Designed to develop and test multilayer film structures, the line consists of seven 1.25-inch extruders paired with Macro’s proprietary blown film die and air ring technology and a 24-inch Automax surface winder capable of producing rolls up to 12 inches in diameter. The system can produce film widths of up to 500 millimeters or 20 inches. The installation was celebrated when Ingenia opened its new Innovation Centre in Brantford on July 22. Houston-based Ingenia produces a wide range of materials for film extrusion, injection molding and rotomolding, notably masterbatches, purging compounds and processing aids. The new lab-scale system will expand Ingenia’s capabilities to develop, evaluate and optimize advanced multilayer film structures while accelerating material innovation and product development, Macro Engineering officials said in a statement. Founded in 1978 and headquartered in Mississauga, Ont., Macro Engineering manufactures blown, cast and Quadex biaxially-oriented coextrusion lines for multilayer films up to 13-layers. The company also supplies sheet extrusion lines for specialty applications, along with coextrusion dies, air rings, and winding solutions.
